Laisha Perez
Hi, Bruins! My name is Laisha, and I'm from East LA! I'm a first-generation college student at UCLA working toward a triple major in Public Affairs, Education & Social Transformation, and Chicana/o Studies.
Being from East LA and growing up in a Mexican community has shaped a lot of who I am. Community is really important to me, and I love being part of spaces where people can support each other and feel like they belong. I'm also part of a Latina sorority at UCLA, which has given me another way to connect with other women and build meaningful friendships.
As a first-gen student, I know college comes with a lot to figure out, and finances are definitely part of that. I'm excited to be part of UCLA Financial Wellness because I want students to know that they don't have to figure everything out on their own, that there are resources available to them, and that managing money doesn't have to mean missing out on the things they enjoy.
My favorite financial wellness tip: Spend time in nature for your next hangout! Nature is free and usually just a ride away. Instead of spending money going out, you can go to the beach, go on a hike, or even visit the UCLA Botanical Garden with your friends. It's a fun way to spend time together without having to spend much money!
I'm excited to connect with more Bruins and be part of a team that helps students feel more confident about their finances!
